How to load your daypack?

Slackpacking means you don’t have to lug all your gear with you. Here’s how to pack the basics correctly.

Pack right

Put the heaviest things in the bottom of the pack – your warm top, food, first aid kit, headlamp. Put stuff that might leak in plastic ziplock bags. Then pack the lighter stuff on top.

Pack smart

Pack things you’ll need during the day in an easily accessible place. Place your camera, snacks, sunscreen, extra water bottle, trail map and bug repellent in the side pockets or where they can be easily reached.

Hydration

Look for a pack that has a built-in bladder-style hydration system or strong side pockets that can carry water bottles. You’ll need to carry at least two litres of liquid.

Stretchy cord

Keep your monopod (much better than a tripod for hiking photography) and rain jacket stuffed in here. A monopod can also double as a hiking pole.

Now go and enjoy the outdoors and let me know how it went.
